Re: New petition seeks mayor’s resignation, Aug. 15.
It is creepy to constantly hear the bellyaching of a teeny weeny group in Nanaimo bent on pushing their politically misplaced biases on everyone.
Lately there have been three petitions concerning Nanaimo city council: The first, a pro-feminist group demanding an apology from Coun. Kipp but it only received 357 signatures. The second was an ultimatum telling council to get along or resign but it only got 372 signatures. The third petition was signed by a whopping 7,553 people. It asked municipal leadership for an official apology acknowledging alleged violence against chief administrative officer Tracy Samra and demands the resignation of Mayor Bill McKay. (All three petitions were signed by people from all over, not just Nanaimo.)
That most recent petition was presented to city council and strongly and accurately points out that 20 times more people are extremely concerned about what has been happening in camera and outside towards Samra. Two thousand per cent more people signed this petition than the small minority who signed the others.
A majority, not a minority few, have spoken.
