To the editor,
Re: Eco-friendly solutions everywhere, Letters, Dec.10.
Thinking “outside of the bag,” how’s this: The city assures me that the contents of my little black dumpster all go to the landfill, end of use. The landfills emit lots of greenhouse gases into the air; some is captured to burn as heating.
But there is an eco-friendly way: Build, in partner with all levels of government, an ultra-modern incinerator at the landfill site. Less air pollution, no poison leachate in the groundwater. The trucking remains the same as now. The ash is kept on site. All that power, put it to use. Share power at the cruise ship dock to take Victoria’s overload of ships. Sell electricity to the grid, at profits eventually. Start now, no more talks. They said it’s a 10-year build for a gas refinery, too long. That was five years ago. It could have been half-built by now.
