To the editor,
Re: Tent city as neighbour is unbearable any longer, Letters, Aug. 30.
I feel for the letter writer and her family and completely agree with her, I feel helplessly disgusted at the state of our city’s downtown. We shouldn’t feel unsafe in the heart of our city. When did people lose their self respect? The sidewalks are filthy. I have enjoyed walking Sway’ A’ Lana and downtown since I moved to this Island paradise. I used to recognize the street people, now there’s strangers asking for cigarettes and money. Where are they coming from? What is the matter with our city representatives? Stand up for the taxpayers. If locals don’t feel safe downtown, what do you think the tourists are saying?
I totally disagree with Discontent City. Nobody I know can sit around and party all day; we are working hard to live our lives.
Give the squatters from other provinces their bus ticket home and close our borders. This is a sad, sad situation and if it’s not handled it will be our demise in more ways than people realize.
