LETTER TO THE EDITOR: There’s no call for the hatred shown at tent city rally

I expect better from my fellow man, says letter writer

To the editor,

Re: No one tries to take down Nanaimo’s Discontent City at rally, Aug. 19.

I was so pleased with the professionalism the RCMP showed at the protest that took place in front of Discontent City at the rally. I estimated at least 25 officers. They even had officers on a rooftop with surveillance cameras on the crowd. I estimated at least 1,000 people. They adjusted accordingly to what was going on. Closing off the roads and not allowing people on the second level of the parkade in the mall. Kudos to them for keeping a lid on the situation.

The concern that I have is the hatred that is coming out over this. I have never experienced this before. There was a gentlemen with a bucket of cookies handing them out to us, and a man that was next to me asked for a grenade. There was no call for that. I expect better from my fellow man. However, I know that is not the case with some people.
