To the editor,
It is time the armchair gurus dispensed with the inane obfuscation surrounding fossil fuel development and the Kinder Morgan pipeline. The sky-is-falling syndrome does not cut it when that is what is being used to purposely delay projects until the investment dries up. Kinder Morgan has met the legal, moral and ethical standards of an enhanced government-sponsored review of their proposal.
Do the naysayers not recognize the $15.6 billion shortfall to the Canadian economy this year, as estimated by ScotiaBank economists?
Do you people who drive, use public transit, depend on trains, planes and heat for your shelter recognize the hypocrisy of your bias? Do you recognize the money used to develop renewable electrical energy can and is being financed by further development and sale of cleaner fossil fuels around the world, replacing coal, but only if we can facilitate the delivery?
We will only be able to move to alternative electrical sources when we have developed the infrastructure, perfected the technology, the storage capacity, affordability (not financed by debt alone). We can and will do that successfully if we are prudent in its development.
Allan Scott, Nanoose Bay
