Editor: Langley Township Council needs to take immediate action to preserve the remaining population of endangered Western toads in the jurisdiction. Studies have shown that roads are the cause of many species’ extirpation.
Temporary road closures and the construction of underpasses would help the remaining population to survive as they travel from their watery birthplace to their land habitat.
Some councillors have indicated they are concerned about the toads, but no concrete action has yet been taken.
Environmental voters are a rapidly increasing demographic, and councillors should keep this in mind for the upcoming municipal elections.
Does the current council want to go down in history as having take an action to preserve our biodiversity? Or is it only so much hot air?
