Letter: Use election to address Oak Bay issues

Having served on council for 15 years I am very concerned with the current state of affairs.

It appears that the current mayor and several of his council cronies are failing the residents in a number of ways.

For example: the roads are a disgrace; many of the sidewalks are so cracked and broken that they are dangerous; the street markings on many streets have not been repainted for years; and parking, particularly at the Monterey centre is non existent much of the time and land bought for parking is being used for other purposes. Deer are multiplying like rabbits. No one seems concerned about the fate of Oak Bay Lodge.

More and more of the sewer costs (which are really tax costs)are been put on the water bill denying seniors the option of deferring those costs as they can with their taxes. The budget increases have been beyond reason.

It is only a few weeks before an election which will result in a number of new councilors and possibly a new mayor. The present mayor and his cronies want to proceed with hiring a very expensive consultant now to review again the issue of secondary suites. The new council may have a different vision than the present one.

I urge you to vote for a change.

John Herbert
