Letter: Warning Kelowna drivers to be aware of winter cyclists

Letter: Warning Kelowna drivers to be aware of winter cyclists

It may be cold outside, but some cyclists are sticking to their bikes

To the editor:

Yes, lots of bicyclists are still cycling as this winter has been warm and there has been little snow.

While cycling in the bike lane in front of City Hall (1435 Water St.) last week I was knocked off my bike and thrown into the vehicle lane.

Fortunately, there were no vehicles and I suffered only minor hand and rib (ouch) injuries. My bicycle is at the bike shop being repaired. And what knocked me off my bike and out of the bike lane? A pedestrian who was running across Water Street to go to the skating rink. He never saw me! The pedestrian suffered a sore arm upon the impact with me and my bike and was duly sorry for causing the accident.

So vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists:

Drive and walk slowly.

Drive and walk defensively

Be visible

Friday, Feb. 08, 2019 is International Bike to Work Day, Kelowna winter cyclists will be celebrating from 7 to 8:30 a.m. at three local coffee shops (www.kelownacycling.org), Please drive and walk safely.
