I attended the public hearing at City Hall, Sept. 23, regarding Joshua House’s application for two recovery homes on farm property. But, after reading the article in the Abbotsford News, “Proposed supportive recovery homes on Abbotsford farmland raises concerns for neighbours,” (Sept. 26), I wondered if the reporter was at the same meeting that I attended.
Yes, some neighbours of the proposal voiced their concerns and fears – and it is important that your readers know of their concerns. But I think that your readers also should know that more people spoke in favour of the proposal and that a strong majority of those in the audience supported the proposal and Joshua House as a responsible community-based organization.
Your article seems to perpetuate a certain view of Abbotsford. By ignoring the people in this community who showed their support of Joshua House and who are committed to coming alongside men who are working hard to overcome their addictions, you appear to be downplaying the fact that Abbotsford has many caring people who are actively seeking solutions to our problems. Shouldn’t your readers be given that side of the picture too?
