Letter to the editor :
I realize that the camp at Jubilee Park will not be allowed to become permanent.
At the same time, I wonder at the desperation of people who consider tents — or even plywood — to be their shelter of choice.
I also wonder where our elected representatives — local, provincial and federal — expect these people to go when told to “move on”.
Most of us — including, of course our elected representatives — are fortunate to sleep in heated houses, and have worries limited to which restaurant to choose for Christmas celebrations.
Those benefits often come down to having the good fortune of a supportive birth family, combined with limited physical or mental challenges.
I hope Abbotsford residents — particularly at this time of year — will reconsider the attitude that homelessness can be solved simply by everyone just going out and getting a job.
