Dear Editor,
Recently there have been published a lot of complaints about campaign events.
Brian Cameron’s letters are getting the spotlight, but he errs in some facts.
A foundation (the Canadian Foundation for Better Government) recently held a couple of events and asked a few TOL candidates to speak.
The event was open to the public, and there were other candidates in attendance, and everyone had the
opportunity to speak to people, after the meeting.
It was not advertised as an all candidates meeting.
It was a privately sponsored event, open to the public, which included all candidates.
The time frame allowed for a few people to speak, and people were asked in advance, by the foundation.
The foundation endorses fiscal responsibility, and made their selection accordingly.
Any group has the right to ask people to speak to them.
However, certain organizations, like residents’ associations, have legal bylaws that prohibit them from being
politically biased.
Unfortunately, they do not always adhere to their own mandate.
Be vigilant.
Please make sure the facts are published.
