Re: “Province to speed up traffic at McKenzie Interchange” (online, June 14)
Adding freeway interchanges and more car lanes just makes congestion and carbon pollution worse, and not just during construction.
You can’t build your way out of congestion.
Our public resources should be going to improve public transit, starting with completing the shoulder bus lanes on Highway 1 to the Six Mile pub area. Colwood and View Royal are working on a design for bus lanes, or a bus way, from Six Mile to Goldstream Avenue. And electric buses now cost about the same as diesel buses over their lifetimes. It is time to stop wasting money on freeway interchanges and highway expansion, and instead invest in creating a great electric public transit system.
