Re: Peacock fans call out… over felled tree, May 4.
We have, until recently, loved living in the Sullivan neighbourhood. The hate for these birds is very sad.
We bought our home 12 years ago when there were still forested areas behind the school. The peacocks were here long before this area was developed. They used to have a home here, used to be safe from cars and people driving down 150 Street at speeds over the speed limit.
These beautiful birds used to be able to live in peace as the rest of our neighbourhood. Not so any more. Now, our neighbourhood is more violent with shootings and bullet casings found at our elementary school last year.
These birds, through no fault of their own, have found themselves in a very bad situation. They were left here to fend for themselves with the help of those who care for them. What happened to kindness for all? If these were dogs or kittens, everyone would be out helping.
Yes, they are loud and messy. I know because they roost on my porch, as well.
They did not choose to be abandoned. Humans did that. They need help not hate.
