In these extraordinary times I thought that you would be interested in a very kind, generous act by a neighbour totally unknown to me before yesterday.
I am 89 now, recovering from recent heart surgery, in the same house and definitely housebound, although I try to take my dog around the block every day.
Yesterday, shortly after our walk, the doorbell rang and I got there just in time to see a stranger walking away.
He smiled and said, “I saw you from the next street and thought I would drop off a care package for you,” and was gone.
Inside the package were wonderful things – toilet paper, hand cleaner, fresh meat, two beautiful big potatoes and a brief note signed, ‘Ryan.’
This reminds me of the war years in England – the camaraderie, and morale-building efforts then.
We must not forget that there are a lot of good people out there and not everyone is a greedy hoarder.
There will be good things come out of this pandemic in the end.
