I love it that White Rock is such a family-oriented community.
For instance, last Saturday evening, almost 200 witches, goblins, ghosts and a multitude of famous TV and video games characters invaded the cultural hall at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints – a pre-Halloween celebration for children of the congregation and their friends.
There was a picnic-snack first, then judges awarded prizes for best carved jack-o’-lanterns and best-decorated-cupcakes.
‘Trunk and treat’ was the climax of the evening. Every child went home with a huge bag of treats, dished out by generous parents and other adults, from their decorated car trunks.
But before the costumed youths deserted the gym for ‘trunk and treat,’ they showed off their costumes, parading to a peppy tune. No masks allowed, but costumes were amazing and creative.
Many young “characters” were vibrating with excitement, and parents were glowing with pride. Judges awarded prizes for so many categories that most children, who had put special effort into creating a costume, trotted off with a prize.
