In the last many months, questions about the future of First United Church in White Rock have led to speculation and concern.

It seems important to share the news that there is nothing new to report!

Along with many other churches in the province, the congregation is seeking a long-term plan for our building and property which could include re-development. The council’s futures committee is considering options for a plan that will provide more financial stability, and enable us to continue our mission to provide community-based outreach.

Discussions are continuing and will take some time to come to fruition.

If the experience of other congregations undergoing this process is any indication, it will be quite some time before First United Church undergoes any significant change to its building and property.

Eventually, the council will bring a plan to the congregation for a final decision. Once a plan is finalized, First United Church White Rock will make an announcement to inform the community at large of its intentions.

Until that time, we are in the midst of a busy season.

Together with Hyland House and a number of community volunteers, the church hosts an Extreme Weather Shelter so that homeless people in White Rock and South Surrey can get in out of the cold.

As well, on the first and third Thursdays of the month, the church hosts a community dinner at 5 p.m., so that none will go hungry and fail to find warm fellowship.
