LETTERS: Guesswork gives rise to ‘false facts’

Re: City mulls relocating 400 homes in Crescent, June 1.

I recently read an article in the Peace Arch News that stated the concerns on rising ocean levels and the idea of moving many people’s houses from Crescent Beach.

I am 19 years old and have lived a few minute walk from Crescent Beach for basically my whole life. I strongly disagree with the article on rising ocean levels because there is not much research to back it up. My father has lived here in Crescent Beach for over 50 years, and the ocean and beach looks exactly like it did when he was a kid. The ocean’s level has hardly changed at all, if any.

I think what people are forgetting, is that the Earth naturally goes through warmer and cooler periods. Currently, we are finishing a cooler period.

The fact that the ocean will rise two metres in 200 years, is not true. It is a guess, and if we actually look at the research and historical facts, we will understand that the Earth isn’t warming enough to cause such a drastic change in the ocean’s levels.

The ocean has risen less than two inches over the past century in our area.

I strongly recommend watching the video by Louder With Crowder on climate change where he discusses the topic with a scientist, Dr. Patrick Moore. You can find the video on YouTube.

Thank you for taking the time to read my letter to the editor.
