Re: No easy answers in ICBC mess, Aug. 30 column.
I think BC Views columnist Tom Fletcher needs to take a trip to Alberta.
There he will find the answer.
Get in your car, Tom, and drive there as you would here in B.C. I guarantee you will get a speeding ticket, running a red light ticket, not signalling ticket and probably failure to wait for a pedestrian ticket.
They have prolific enforcement and photo radar.
The latter is probably the magic bullet. As you know, the NDP introduced it, got Campbell elected when he vowed to remove it, and the NDP don’t have the kahonas to bring it back.
And, FYI, it brings in over $50 million dollars to both Calgary and Edmonton, so in Vancouver it would bloat the provincial coffers.
In addition, if you take ICBC out of the equation altogether and totally privatize the industry, your insurance rates will almost decrease by 50 per cent.
Take it from a former Albertan who periodically returns to find that my B.C. driving habits there get me into trouble. And, yes, I have a vehicle insured in both provinces.
There are easy answers, Tom. Just not the political will to make it happen.
