LETTERS: Let’s not ‘hand over’ problems to next generation

Columnist April Lewis concludes her May 17 column with the hope that Generation Z will do a better job than we have done.

It breaks my heart to read that she, and many more of the older generations state their willingness to “hand over” to these young people the problems of the planet.

They are bringing their youth, their energy, their zeal and their vulnerability to fully face these problems. They are not asking to solve them alone. They are asking the adults of the world to stand and work alongside them. Surely we must be willing and, indeed, anxious to do this.

After all, they are our children and grandchildren. We still have much to offer and with our love for them and for our still amazing planet we must do so.

If we do not know how we can help, simply ask them.
