I couldn’t agree more with letter-writer Wendy Boyes, but I would go even further.

The fact that backless benches have been installed on this block of Johnston Road tells me that all involved in this project had no idea or, even worse, chose to ignore the age of the majority of residents.

It may come as a surprise to those who planned this area that some of us do appreciate something to rest against when sitting. Function over form, please.

I can only shake my head at such a poor design, from the choice of seating material – wood stain, really? – to benches placed at pedestrian traffic pinch points. Watch out for feet being trampled in front of Scotia Bank!

It seems that this project is a good example of ideas that look good on paper just do not translate well when implemented.

I can only hope that TransLink won’t be placing any shelters at the new bus stop area near the Bosley’s – what a perfect place to stop pedestrian traffic completely!
