I think we have a city council trying to resolve problems they don’t understand with solutions that are imaginary. Making a busy street like Marine Drive into a one-way during the summer is irresponsible.
The first question is, where are these cars going when they can’t find a parking place?
Of course, they are going to race down any parallel street to give it another try. We see this already with the amount of speeding on residential streets.
Garbage pickup, traffic stop and crosswalks slow down traffic, not to mention taking buses either off the street with rerouting or stopping traffic. And, where do they go?
When a pedestrian is injured or killed, or someone is hurt with patios now occupying the street, whose insurance covers them?
I am very empathetic and sympathetic with Marine Drive restaurants, having spent 25 years in the restaurant business, but if they act sensibly with masking and spacing, asking or insisting customers be vaccinated they could be back to full strength by July 1, and everybody is happy.
