The mayors have endorsed an eight-lane replacement for the Massey Tunnel, with two of those lanes dedicated to transit vehicles. There are already three lanes northbound in the morning and three lanes southbound in the afternoon, so six lanes will only address counterflow traffic.

Meanwhile, Port Mann traffic has increased 60 per cent in five years. That means by today’s traffic volumes, a six-lane replacement tunnel will be drastically under-built. In the next 20 years, there will be significant population growth south of the river. The mayors are planning to fail.
