LETTERS: McCallum’s municipal force welcome

Why does the mainstream media continue to spout a lot of negative energy and fear mongering towards Surrey Mayor Doug McCallum?

What exactly is wrong with going forward in terms of trying to improve public safety in our community?

A municipal police force is a solid plan that should have been implemented a long time ago, but unfortunately it was shunned and ignored by the previous council.

Calling Surrey RCMP to complain about dope fiends, thugs, aggressive panhandlers and gangsters that cause trouble in our neighbourhoods is a waste of time, as these calls are not taken seriously enough.

Cities such as Delta, Abbotsford, Vancouver, Victoria and New Westminster have their own municipal police forces, so why not Surrey? We deserve a police force that will work for us citizens, not Ottawa. Mayor McCallum is doing a huge favour for his constituents, and depending on what the transitional cost may come to, lest we forget the old saying: you get what you pay for.
