I was at Save-On Foods at around 9 a.m. today. There was no flour, no sugar, no white rice and no toilet paper.
Seeing it is quite a shock. It displays how fearful people are.
Today, I read that WestJet has laid off half its staff. I bet a few live in Surrey.
Our son informed me that he knows of Vancouver hotel workers being laid off. Surrey has hotels and there is talk of schools shutting. There are many for whom this is a full-blown crisis.
This is more than just inconvenience. There is real fear out there. Job losses, renters, mortgage payment impacts, relocations, education.
There are tomes of data proving that in stressful critical events like now, many family and community incidents, violence or worse will occur at a higher-than-average rate, requiring law enforcement officers to attend.
At this rocky time Surrey’s mayor, without any opposition from B.C.’s Solicitor Gen., Mike Farnworth or Premier John Horgan, accepted the transition report on March 10, from Farnworth’s office.
It is supposed to inform all of costs, timelines, etc.
It is a massive failure and con job to the Surrey taxpayers, who paid for it in the first place, as all the pertinent information that would clarify the costs and process and then new information in Appendix 3 is redacted.
I am certain as 843 Surrey RCMP officers continue to give their all to Surrey. They, too, through family members will have many of these stressors, possibly spouses laid off, including their own jobs.
A big unknown due to this wild west transition push.
If Mayor McCallum, Farnworth or Horgan have any concerns whatsoever about the safety of Surrey citizens and of Surrey RCMP, this con job of a transition must immediately cease.
Wildfires, floods, pandemics – this is when we need a stable government to use its mandated powers to minimize losses.
Ottawa knows it is a time to have stability. It is time for key elected leaders to take responsibility, stop this reckless and highly stressful transition nonsense.
The costs and unknown impacts to Surrey taxpayers and RCMP and their families at this critical time deserve nothing less, it is demanded.
Their own failure of a useless transition report demands it be stopped.
