Re: Bakery to diversify in light of construction, May 23.

We have so many small businesses that are struggling here. We must do something to encourage local shopping.

New condo owners – along with longer-time residents – need to know what’s available, and what they must support to keep our small town viable and happy.

The White Rock Business Improvement Association needs to do more event-based promotions.

Some towns do “First Friday” evening events to get people out onto the streets.

The Five Corners concerts, Tour de White Rock and July 1/Aug. 1 long-weekend events should do spreads for visitors to get them to see uptown options, as well as the beach, which we know also needs a lot of work and promotion.

But long-term viability belongs to good promotion to new residents – you buy here, live here!

And walk, please walk.
