LETTERS: Short-term solution for downtown Penticton

I would like to suggest a short-term solution that would not involve large sums of money.

I want to congratulate the mayor and his new council for their successful campaign to represent us for the next four years.

There seem to  be as many against as there are for the project of widening the sidewalks on Main Street. I would like to suggest a short-term solution that would not involve large sums of money.

By simply adding barricades on Main Street to eliminate one lane, you can observe the effects for two or three months before proceeding further.  This would give people a chance to observe the change without having it cast in concrete.

Since Main Street is the only north-south corridor in the city, it seems that by moving cautiously we might all be better off. It would also give you a little more time to  get everyone on side with the project if it proves to be workable.
