Re: Dogs have nothing on geese, Aug. 2 letters
I would like to respond to Mr. MacKillopp’s mention of the “minefield of goose ‘fecal events'” on the White Rock promenade. Presumably dogs are banned from the promenade for reasons of cleanliness and the nuisance factor associated with their presence.
I would like to point out there are regulars who, with impunity, feed the birds daily on the promenade. No one is suggesting we ban birds from the promenade, but certainly the feeding of birds exacerbates both “fecal events” and the nuisance factor associated with the birds.
More importantly, it disturbs the natural balance of the ecosystem there. At Granville Island, signs are posted on sandwich boards. Could they not also be posted on the promenade in the hopes that ostensible bird lovers will get the message?
