The March Against Monsanto held in Williams Lake May 23 drew in huge support, adding to the growing momentum that is fighting against genetically modified foods and practices conducted by Monsanto, the world’s largest GMO seed producer.

Thank you so very much to those who attended the local march, which included more than 75 participants. You were inspiring to me and to others who care and want to make a difference.

Thank you to Cariboo Growers and the Williams Lake Food Policy Council as well for your support and for offering a venue for the event.

The Williams Lake march was held in conjunction with other March Against Monsanto rallies held on six continents and in more than 450 cities, with hundreds of thousands of individuals taking part.

While the issues of the world  can often seem overwhelming and can therefore cause a person to turn a blind eye, it’s important to remember that issues such as deforestation, pollution, poverty, inequality, and even cancer are linked to common problems and can be stopped by taking a stand against them.

We can all make a positive difference: choose local and organic foods, avoid packaged foods that don’t bear a Certified Organic or Non-GMO Project Verified symbol, write letters to your member of Parliament and to Health Canada, sign online petitions, and help out causes such as March Against Monsanto.

Plans are underway for local events later this year, but volunteers will be needed to make things happen.
