Thanks from Canadian Blood Services
Editor:
On behalf of Canadian Blood Services and our Territory Manager, Ann Chabert, I would like to thank Ladysmith residents who support Canadian patients by giving blood.
In late April, we announced the need for 200,000 blood donations by July. Thousands of eligible donors answered the call for support and helped us collect more than 193,000 donations. Approximately 100 donations were collected in Ladysmith, which helped us meet hospital demand.
As some of our regular donors are busy with vacation and family time in the warm summer months, we always welcome new donors. To book an appointment for any upcoming Ladysmith clinics, download the GiveBlood app, visit blood.ca or call 1 888 2 DONATE (1 888 236 6283).
We can’t thank you enough for the valuable gift you and other gracious donors provide to those in need. Please know that your time, selflessness and spirit of giving in Ladysmith are appreciated. Somewhere in Canada, a patient will be thankful.

Please, More Social Development Goals
Editor:
In 2015, more than 190 world leaders committed to 17 SDGs (Social Development Goals) to help us all end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice and fix climate change. While these goals may seem lofty, in fact our survival and that or our progeny depends upon striving to live by them.
How can we, as individuals, contribute to a better world? Simply by letting our leaders know that we need to implement policies which are compatible with SDGs. Canada has had a reputation for reaching the hardest to reach and helping those most at risk, but we are falling behind in our commitment.
If Canada truly is back, let’s show the world by contributing more to international aid. To Minister of International Development Marie-Claude Bibeau: could you please have a word with our lovely Prime Minister Justin Trudeau? We would truly appreciate it.
