Re: Town Centre raises concern, Nov. 6, letter
Kudos to the City of Surrey’s planning staff and area residents with reaching the ‘stage 1’ milestone.
I was at each open house and talked to dozens of residents, including the planning staff. And from information gathered, I felt people are on board with the proposals.
I think your writer must have been in the wrong building.
We know the face of the Semiahmoo Peninsula must change and will change, and we hold back our personal biases for a greater good.
People and businesses will move here. Services for seniors and youth and affordability will make the Semiahmoo Town Centre a very desirable place to call home.
To the writer: this is not about your personal wants. It’s about the community. You had raised concerns about your ‘single family’ home area, but agreed with all the highrise development to be on 16 Avenue and 152 Street. This reads NIMBY.
The consolidation of property will not just benefit developers, but the whole community as well.
Semiahmoo Town Centre will have more care homes and care-related services.
The hospital will make expansions. Townhouses and condos and businesses grow together.
Health-related support services, such as medical offices, pharmacies, specialty health office, diagnostic services, etc. are a necessity as the population ages.
Perhaps a university in the downtown core?
Within 30 years, Semiahmoo will grow to become one of the most desirable and vibrant places to live.
Vision – we have it.
The train is coming. Get on board.
