Re: Council divided on encroachment approach, Nov. 22
I agree with the staff report and the council decision, that there will be no more encroachment on city property.
I was surprised that 20 to 25 per cent of boulevards in White Rock have encroachment on them. When I walk around the city, I also see many encroachments and setbacks that are not in accordance with the bylaws governing house structures.
The city should force the guilty property owners to remove any major encroachment. This will benefit the community and discourage others.
The city has to be planned with lots of green spaces, pedestrian pathways and a world-class Marine Drive for future generations.
The city does not have the land base, but there is a lot of potential with ocean on one side and South Surrey landscape with trails on the other sides. We don’t have to adopt a bylaw to remove the encroachments and add to the tax bill. The city can leave that one for the large municipalities. The City of White Rock can make aware all the businesses and residents, especially the guilty ones, that the city means business. All will be treated equally and fairly.
