Editor:
I have just returned from the wind-up meeting and luncheon for the Chorfest Committee of the Kent St. Choristers, who meet weekly over the fall/winter/spring seasons at the Kent Street Activity Centre in White Rock.
I am a proud Canadian, British Columbian and senior citizen of White Rock. Besides its many other attributes, White Rock offers a host of areas where one can be involved and volunteer.
About 70 seniors have chosen the Kent St. Choristers, under the direction of Gale Lindenthaler, as a wonderful venue to help keep us thinking young, volunteering in our community and building strong personal ties. We enjoy singing at the hospital and care homes in our area.
During the third week of April, we hosted hundreds of seniors who came from various locations in B.C. to White Rock/South Surrey to participate in vocal workshops led by the renowned B.C. clinician, Paul Cummings. This was done in conjunction with the BC Choral Federation.
A gala concert was held April 20 at the White Rock Baptist Church and was sold out shortly after the doors opened. We had worked hard to learn songs which were all of Canadian origin, to plan this large event and to bring these many people to our area. We were celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday, and it was a great success.
We thank the many people of this area who came out to enjoy the concert and sponsored us in our endeavour, but we feel disappointed in the lack of support/coverage from our local Peace Arch News.
