LETTERS: What reason is there to own a vicious dog?

I was walking north on Everall Street, just south of Thrift Avenue, when a young man with a leashed dog the size of a German shepherd passed me going south.

Everall has no sidewalks on either side of the street and the young man was doing all he could to restrain the dog from biting me.

Besides being much frightened and thankful I didn’t have my grandchildren with me, I wondered why anyone would choose to have a dog like that and also, when a dog is registered for a licence, is there a visual examination by the city of the dog and owner?

There’s got to be a reason for wanting (or not registering) an attack dog.
