LETTERS: Wounded goose hurt by practice arrow

Wounded goose hurt by practice arrow not necessary.

This goose was shot by someone who was not following hunting guidelines. The result is that it has been impaled and not captured.

The hunting guidelines require that we hunt with a two inch broad head arrow. This ensures that a large wound is created, ideally sufficient to kill the goose.

Hunting as someone has done using practice arrow heads may not kill the animal and it is illegal. Not only that, but geese must be hunted in season and the hunter must have a hunter number, a hunting licence, and a migratory bird hunting licence or be First Nations.

The person that shot this goose needs to see this picture and read this story so that this does not happen again. Please pass it on so that we can reach them. The arrow that impaled this goose has green fletching and no broad head.

I believe that the local food movement is important and that hunting and conservation are key to our success in the future.

I don’t see hunting as a game. I see it as a way to feed ourselves. I am not in support of people who hunt for pleasure.
