Light rail will be indispensable

Since its future is precarious, it’s important to remember current Vancouver Island rail service is only a fraction of its potential.

Track improvements will allow for an increase in freight volume and passenger rail speed. At long last, commuter rail is a near reality.

While $15 million for track improvements is significant, it is a bargain compared to the cost of replacing all rail infrastructure in the future.

As our population grows, our highways become further congested, and our concern for the environment increases, the importance of rail on the Island will only increase.

As an efficient, climate-friendly mode of transport, the E&N railway is an asset that’s too important to lose.
