Loggers should avoid old growth forests

Editor: With respect, I strongly protest any additional logging of the Old Growth Forest in or near the Avatar Grove at Port Renfrew, BC. I hiked the area Sunday, May 15, and was shocked to read it has been mostly logged, with more pending.  This area, and other old growth forests still standing on Vancouver Island, could be a huge tourist destination for all to enjoy.

I worked in the Victoria Courthouse for 26 years and was sitting in Court during many of the protest trials involving the logging of Old Growth Forests in the Carmanah Walbran area.  I highly respected the people who went to trial; knowing they would be found guilty and sentenced.

In time, they did make a difference.

Is another large scale protest what is needed to reinforce sensible and sustainable logging practises?
