MacGregor’s pension management follies
Alistair MacGregor seems never short of subject matter for ill-considered proposals looking to be enshrined in law.
His latest is to remove the national pension plan from the competent hands who have managed it well and ensured its survival after politicians were, in 1997, prevented from using it to meet the favours and fads of the moment. Mr. MacGregor appears to think that his definition of some greater good arising from social and environmental objectives trumps the need of all Canadians for long term personal security.
If he has some spare time, he might encourage the government his party is so enthusiastically supporting to make good on its arrears of contributions to the Old Age Pension Fund. That would show some genuine concern for Canadians approaching retirement, providing he leaves its management to someone qualified.
