Editor:
My two grandchildren and myself recently attended the Festival of the Arts, held on the grounds and in the studio of the Mind and Matter Art Gallery, owned by Mary Mikelson and family.
Mary has held this wonderful festival, in memory of her husband, Arnold, a world-renowned wood carver, for a number of years now.
My grandchildren and myself were amazed by the huge number of gifted art pieces at the festival, July 14-15, 21-22. Many artists were in attendance.
There was pottery, jewelry, paintings, sculptures, hand-knitted apparel, carvings, porcelain, stained-glass and more. The three hours we spent there went by so very quickly, with the children ooh-ing and aah-ing over so many of the wonderful creations.
We were sorry to have to leave before we could take it all in, but we were expecting company.
I don’t know when I have enjoyed an afternoon as much as that day. For me, it was delightful, euphoric, and very therapeutic.
Mary’s property is the perfect setting for an art festival, it is so beautiful.
The price to attend was amazing, and I compliment Mary for making it affordable for those who might otherwise be unable to attend. I don’t know of any better value for any event in our community.
I paid – are you sitting down – $3 for a senior and children from 16 years of age and down are free!
Next year, I plan on attending all four days of the festival. It was a wonderful, cultural experience for my grandchildren as well.
Thank you, Mary Mikelson, family and volunteers.
