In East Clayton we have many issues.
Many of them stem from the inability of the City of Surrey to enforce its adopted secondary suite bylaws.
Council says that residents think that the city does not enforce its bylaws and we just don’t understand how hard it is when you have to take bylaw offenders to court for enforcement.
I witnessed an elected council member saying this at a recent council meeting. Why, oh why does it even need to get to the court system? Start fines immediately.
Multiple suites are allowed to continue even though being repeatedly reported. Parking is another major issue in the East Clayton neighbourhood. People are parking for longer than 72 hours on the street, people are parking in the back alleys obstructing people from getting in and out of their homes and nothing is being done.
From where I sit and what I have experienced, it is a free-for-all in Surrey. You can have as many suites as you want and park wherever you want and for how long you want. The city does not seem to care about the people being affected by their inability to enforce the bylaws. These people are the ones that didn’t necessarily vote in the current council and they are following all the rules and paying their fare share of the taxes.
When will it end? Will the West Clayton development become the same mess?
Stop building coach homes and no drive ways. Stop making the problem worse and start enforcing the bylaws.
