Mayor and council should provide phone numbers for upset citizens
When I walked out my door on May 21 there was a notice on my door stating that 361 St. Julian St. was going to be used as a tent camp for some of the Cowichan Valley street people, to protect them until the coronavirus disappears. The property is owned by the City of Duncan taxpayers.
I am not objecting to this proposal but what I am objecting to is the list of contacts listed to call if citizens need to report if incidents exist around this tent camp. The list does not list contact numbers for the mayor and council.
As the City of Duncan city council approved this location along with local social agencies, the mayor and council members should also have their contact numbers listed on the contact list, and that is direct contact numbers, not an answering service.
The mayor and council approve this decision, then wash their hands, without taking any responsibility.
This is a complete no-no.
The mayor and council are voted into their jobs by the City of Duncan taxpayers, and their contact numbers should be listed on the contact list as that is a part of their job. They all receive sufficient payment of wages for a part time job, paid for by the taxpayers.
When I was a child growing up, I remember my grandfather having a property flooding problem caused by a city decision and he called the mayor at his home to come and personally see the damage caused. The mayor was at my grandfather’s home at 9:30 a.m. on a Sunday morning, because in those days, that was his job, not like today of passing the buck.
Bring back the old days, not like the present Mickey Mouse attitude of our elected officials in the City of Duncan.
If Duncan city council wash their hands from responsibility of their decision making, then do not bother to run for re-election. Just a complete waste of time and money.
Unbelievable!
