Re: A celebration of Revelstoke’s Children coming on January 12

I read with interest the community comment by Tracy Spannier in your Jan. 4 edition.

I want to applaud the initiative in developing a Children’s Charter to raise the awareness and understanding of the roles we each have in striving for the best outcomes for all children. This is a wonderful example for all communities – because it’s a community-driven response to problem-solving for local families that puts the child’s interests first. We hope that other communities across B.C. will be inspired to follow this great example – and develop their own Children’s Charters too.

Congratulations Revelstoke for your amazing commitment to working together to improve outcomes for the youngest members of your community. You have worked diligently at improving children’s early learning opportunities and outcomes and boosting literacy rates for students – and your hard work has paid off with outstanding success!

We can all work together to become champions for children’s rights and take positive steps forward to achieve better outcomes and opportunities for our children. We are extremely proud of your community and the accomplishments you have made! Great work, Revelstoke!

Mary McNeil

Minister of Children and Family Development
