More community support for Omineca Ice needed

It was great to see so many people turn up at the Vanderhoof arena to support the Omineca Ice this past weekend.

It was great to see so many people turn up at the Vanderhoof arena to support the Omineca Ice this past weekend.

Up until now, crowd numbers for this seasons home games have been really disappointing so I’m sure it was a great morale booster for the players and coaches to have some community support.

Despite the defeat of the Ice by the Williams Lake Stampeders, the crowd were treated with a really quick and exciting game of hockey.

The Omineca Ice continue to operate with a difficult financial budget and in recent years there has been talk of cutting the team all together if things don’t improve. What a huge disappointment that would be for the town.

Teams in surrounding communities such as Houston and Smithers are well-known for their huge fan base and packed games.

This years team is leaps and bounds above last years, and the Ice stand a really good chance of making the playoffs this year.

A good crowd could be the booster needed to bring the team to new heights.

Saturday night games are $10, with $2 of every ticket sold going to the Madison Scott Search Fund. Sunday games are $5.

For an updated schedule of games or additional team information, go to www.cihl.info or join the Omineca Ice group on Facebook.
