MP on the hot seat

Never in the history of Canadian MPs have the taxpayers given so much and received so little

After reading Neil Horner’s recent article on Veteran Affairs (Last Post fund snag, The NEWS, June 18), I think all of us veterans should be told about what I perceive to be MP James Lunney’s disrespect for veterans last Remembrance Day.

Lunney came to the Veteran’s Day ceremony dressed like he was going to a sporting event wearing a baseball hat, jacket and slacks — totally improper for this solemn occasion.

The emcee who takes care of this event year after year had to leave his post and go to Lunney and ask him who he was and who he was representing.

I feel this is disgraceful after all the taxpayers’ money he spent on travel and not being recognized in your own constituency.

I have personally sent Mr. Lunney five e-mails and one verbal request at his office — all of these were to help our fellow Canadians — and he never even acknowledged or dignified them with a reply.

I volunteered and put in many hours into each of his campaigns. I ask myself why and all I can come up with is I am a Conservative and we didn’t have anyone else to work with.

After thinking about all the taxpayers’ money spent on this member of parliament and the French Creek Marina fiasco, I will say never in the history of Canadian MPs have the taxpayers given so much and received so little.
