To the editor:
I really get annoyed when comments are made without any time taken to research the topic.
Adrian Dix is quoted as saying the Northwest Transmission Line being built by BC Hydro is over budget and that is not satisfactory.
What Adrian fails to mention is that NDP is NDP no matter where it is.
For example, Mr. Dix had dinner with Premier Greg Selinger, NDP premier of Manitoba; Premier Darrell Dexter, NDP premier of Nova Scotia; and Thomas Mulcair, NDP federal Opposition leader in December 2012. The NDP is unified across the country.
Presently in the province of Manitoba, Manitoba Hydro is building a 1,384-kilometre transmission line at a budget of $2.24 billion. Manitoba Hydro wants the transmission line to run on the east side of Lake Winnipeg, as it is the most environmentally friendly choice.
Premier Selinger’s NDP government wants to override Manitoba Hydro’s decision and have the line built on the west of Lake Manitoba, which will involve more than 600 km of environmental damage, and add an extra $1 billion to the Manitoba Hydro’s budget estimate.
The Selinger route is also longer.
Now, why is a $300-million cost overrun a crime in British Columbia, but OK for a NDP government in Manitoba to have a cost overrun of $1 billion?
Mr. Dix must face all facts and compare apples to apples before shooting from the hip and spreading more propaganda.
Maybe he was born yesterday, but the readers were not.
