No disconnect

I find your choice of words rather interesting, but predictable

Dropping by Parksville last week, I happened upon The Parksville Qualicum Beach News and your editorial entitled ‘Disconnected.’

I find your choice of words rather interesting, but predictable. You make reference to the union that represents B.C. public school teachers (BCTF) and assert that there is a “disconnect” between the teachers and the BCTF, as if they are two separate entities. They are not. They are the same.

And how are you trying to show there is some kind of “disconnect” between these two separate (in your skewed view) entities? You seem to be disturbed to think that teachers would be concerned about the notion of Canada’s military recruiting students in schools. That’s quite a puzzle. If you think it’s appropriate for our military to be in our public schools trying to recruit students to join, then you should just say so. If you think teachers should not be concerned about this, then you should just say so. Suggesting that there is a “disconnect between the…teachers and… the union that represents them” on this particular issue, or any other for that matter, is ludicrous.

Try a little harder to sound like you know what you’re talking about, would you? Otherwise, you fail to serve the interests of your readers, and the resulting “disconnect” adds nothing to public discourse.
