Not happy with health centre plan

Oceanside residents deserve better than this inadequate proposal

I was disappointed to read in the paper (The News, Jan. 24) that Qualicum Beach council made a unanimous decision to endorse the proposed walk-in clinic in response to a VIHA cheerleader.

I had hoped, in getting informed on matters of importance to the community, that members might have read some or all of the four studies that have been done on    the issue.

These are available in the archives at the Qualicum Beach Museum for politicians or residents to read.

Just yesterday, one of our residents needed to travel to the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital to have a new cast made for her fractured arm.

This required 100 kilometres of travel, three hours of time and costly and uncertain parking upon arrival.

A local community hospital could provide casts.

We will only have our health care needs met when “he that pays the piper calls the tune” — just as Comox and Campbell River did.

I urge readers who agree to phone their council members and step out of their “silent majority” habits.
