Dear editor,
I write in response to Mr. Eriksson’s recent letter in which he is “suspicious” about Courtenay Council building a firefighter training centre and satellite firehall.
At the outset, it is clear he has not read any of the independent analyses of Courtenay’s fire protection: they both recommended building both training centre and firehall at the already purchased site with all due haste!
His concern about the timing is simply odd: Courtenay bought the site in 2005, voted to proceed in 2012, conducted two independent reviews, and then recently voted again to proceed.
Gee, over nine years on this issue is too fast?
His comments on the Comox Training Facility are singularly ill informed.
Again, both studies identified vital training that Comox simply can not provide. Furthermore, anyone walking by the site will see it clearly can not expand, being completely surrounded by a road, a school and private houses.
In all, his comments show more of a willingness to play politics than an informed concern about fire protection in Courtenay.
