Once deer are gone, they are gone forever

Letter to the editor on the finality of killing deer

I enjoy looking out of my apartment window and watching a family of deer munching the grass in my neighbours’ backyards, as the animals wander beside the vegetable plots and flower beds.

My deer-loving neighbours have deer-resistant plants and deer-proof fences.

I watch those innocent, beautiful and trusting animals and pray that drivers would slow down and avoid hitting any animal (deer, dogs, etc.), as they would avoid hitting any child running across a road.

On days when the deer are not visiting, I worry that they may have been hit or that they may have wandered into the Oak Bay neighbourhood.

Garden plants can be replaced. Once these animals are gone, they are gone forever.
