Your coverage of the beautiful whale on the beach was very touching.

I watched it all on TV that day, and an exquisite event happened that I have not seen reported and I have been unable to forget.

A black and white herd dog – a collie, I think – was running around and around the whale and the people surrounding it, in increasingly smaller circles, as if to push the people in closer to the whale, to help it or maybe it knew another animal was in distress and had died.

Whatever the reason, it seemed a caring tribute from one animal to another in its last moments on earth.

I have seen this same breed of dog do this in Australia while herding sheep.
