OUR VIEW: Help meet Canada’s critical demand by donating blood

More than 23,000 donors are urgently needed across the nation by July 2

Can it be said often enough?

Canadian Blood Services is in critical need of blood donations leading up to the Canada Day long weekend and it says more than 23,000 donors are urgently needed across the nation by July 2 to meet demand throughout the summer.

As noted by Rick Prinzen, the organization’s vice-president of blood donations, the need for blood doesn’t take a holiday.

Every year they put out the call for help. Canadian Blood Services is a not-for-profit charitable organization in charge of managing the nation’s supply of blood, stems cells and other blood products.

Donors can visit blood.ca for more information, download the GiveBlood app, or call 1-888-2-DONATE to find a site to donate blood, or simply walk into a collection centre nearest to you. As they say, it’s in you to give.

Did you know, according to the Canadian Blood Services, that there is a 50 per cent chance either you or someone you know will need a blood transfusion at some point in life?

Like the Canadian flag, blood cells are red and white.

Why not celebrate Canada Day by potentially giving the gift of life to another?

You won’t regret it.
